Mike Keeling, Artist

.For want of a better name I call my work "Photoart". As my lifes interests have been in the physical world the latter is also the main subject of my artistic inclination. My images are made from photographs that I myself have taken .Nearly all of my work is landscape based, using that term in the broadest possible sense. I am not a purist photographer, whilst I greatly appreciate the recording/documentation side of photography and in particular fine landscape work, and though I make many "straight" images,I love to modify and combine images to make something new.For me imagination is important in art, along with humour. Humour is of huge importance in life yet very little art seems to bother with it. I like to keep the work simple and to the point. My montage work is perhaps akin to a primitive painting style. Some of the work is essentially cartoons made using photography ( Us photograhers are supposed to be closet painters, maybe so!) As a scientist I like to keep abreast of new techniques for photo processing, some of these will eventually find their way onto Artfind. All work is printed on very high quality media and treated with respect should outlast any prospective purchaser. All work on Artfind is limited edition, once an edition sells out there will be no more copies made. You can seethe work"full size' on this web site but remember the image quality is way down because of the small file size. This not only affects the apparent sharpness of the work but also the colour. When looking at my images on Artfind it may pay to look under my name as my work is very scattered among that of others and trying to find them may try your patience. Samples of my work may be seen at Depot Artspace in Devonport Auckland.Photographers Gallery Hawkes Bay In Napier also holds some of my work as stock.(you can also enjoy a good lunch in their cafe!If there are no pieces on display ask the staff to show you what they have. If you enjoyed looking at my stuff I would love to hear your comments so drop me an email, if you did not thanks for looking anyway! All images on this website are copyright to the photographer.
